Slip and Trip in Public Places
If you have an accident or suffer an injury in a public place or on someone else’s property, and it was not your fault, you may be able to make a personal injury compensation claim through NOTMYFAULT.
Common causes of slip and trip injuries include spillages on the floor, poorly maintained footpaths and walking surfaces, obstructions on walking surfaces, insufficient lighting and badly fitted carpets or floors.
Whether you are in a public building, a supermarket or shop, an office, someone’s home, a factory or any other premises, the occupier of those premises has a duty to take reasonable care to keep the walking areas free of obstruction and safe for people to use.
If you slip or trip on the public highway you may be able to make a personal injury compensation claim against the local council or the organisation in charge if you suffer an injury on property which is owned by them, such as a council house, if they can be shown to have been negligent.
If you suffer an injury in someone’s home, many home insurance policies include cover for liability so you do not have to be concerned if you had an accident in a friend or family members home as the insurance company would often be liable to pay any compensation you may be awarded.
